New from Hiroshi Wakabayashi, this is Comet, a handheld polarized oil cell kaleidoscope.
The bright and colorful interior manadala is created with a 2 mirror system and an oil filled object chamber containing tiny pieces of transparent film. To further enhance the interior beauty, Hiroshi used a polarized film inside the object chamber. This film filters out light rays that would normally pass through and illuminates the transparent pieces inside. The range of colors is caused by the light rays bending at various angles.
The body of the scope is enhanced with gold paint and tiny dichroic speckles. The exterior of the object chamber is also enhanced with a decorative sliver epoxy with embedded colored stones.
This scope is approximately 7" long, 1-1/8" wide at the eye piece end and 1-3/4" wide at the object chamber end.
