Vintage Kaleidoscope - Orange Poppies by David Sugich

From the Joie de Vivre collection*, this is Orange Poppies by David Sugich.

Orange Poppies is handcrafted in the Nova Fantasy style which features a long tapered, equilateral mirror system, encased in a stained glass case in a blue/green swirl on two sides, with the third side in pearlescent white glass in a pyramid shape.  In this version, instead of a glass orb at the end for the object cell, the object cell consist of three teal green colored oil wands which match the exterior glass used on two sides of the pyramid.  These oil wands can be interchanged with oil wands that are available in a variety of colors.

With this special handmade kaleidoscope, David has hand etched bright orange poppies with long green stems onto the mirrors which reflect around the entire inside of the kaleidoscope.  Some of the poppies are open and some are closed.  He also added a small colorful butterfly which seems to dance around the poppies and against the blue sky background created by the teal oil wands.  A beautifully artistic creation.

This very special kaleidoscope measures approximately 12-1/2" long.  The eye whole end measures 4" across each of the three side.  The wands are 6" long x 3/8" inches in diameter.  Additional wands can be purchased here.

*From 1984 to 2020, Linda Given succeeded to bring a little more "joie" to the world from her retail store Joie de Vivre in Cambridge, Massachusetts.  Joie de Vivre was well known for its delightful, clever, beautiful, original and just plain wacky gift items ~ and for its wonderful collection of handcrafted and artistic kaleidoscopes.  Joie de Vivre closed its doors in November 2020 after 36 wonderful years.  We are honored to bring Linda's remaining inventory to you here.  Please continue to check back in as we work to get all the scopes photographed and posted to this area. These are vintage kaleidoscopes that were on display in the store and do show signs of wear.
