Kaleidoscope - Hawaiian Shave Ice #8 in Slumped Glass by Yoshiko & Takeo Matsumoto

These unique kaleidoscopes are inspired by Matsumoto's Shave Ice in Haleiwa, Hawaii, the artists favorite, which has been serving shave ice in the same location since 1951!  

The Hawaiian Shave Ice series are handcrafted kaleidoscopes with a gorgeous aqua blue, yellow and white colored slumped glass body tapered in the middle and wider at the top housing an interior glass encasing the mirror system.  The rounded cap of the kaleidoscope houses the rotating liquid object cell filled with lamp-worked glass pieces.   

This kaleidoscope features an internal 2 mirror system producing an amazing 11 point round mandala image surrounded by a glowing halo of color.  One of my favorite things about this scope is the use of textured and decorative glass in the object chamber creating a unique depth to the imagery.   

This handheld kaleidoscope measures approximately 6-1/2" tall by 1-1/2" in diameter at the object cell end.  The scope arrives in a custom wooden box.
